...the Financial District is the city's commerce hub and features featuring many landmark destinations. Ranked as one of the top four financial centers in the nation, San Francisco's Financial District begins at Montgomery Street and extends east toward the Embarcadero Center, where you can find eight blocks of shops and restaurants. Jackson Square, with many historic buildings erected in the early 1850's, is a short walk from Embarcadero Center on the edge of the Financial District. The gorgeous skyline is marked by the cluster of high-rise towers that showcase the city's tallest buildings, including 555 California Street and the Transamerica Pyramid as well as other skyscrapers like 101 California Street and 345 California Street.
The Financial District is home to the city's largest concentration of corporate headquarters, law firms, banks, savings & loans and other financial institutions, such as the corporate headquarters of VISA, Wells Fargo Bank, the Charles Schwab Corporation, McKesson Corporation, Barclays Global Investors, Gap, and the Union Bank of California. Historic Montgomery Street, known as the "Wall Street of the West", is an epicenter of the district. There are several upscale shopping malls in the area, including the Crocker Galleria, the Embarcadero Center, the Ferry Building, and the Rincon Center complex.
